Sukiyaki – KYU SAKAMOTO**

Japanese vocalist Kyu Sakamoto achieved his only US top twenty album chart success with this collection of songs, mostly sung in Japanese. The delightful title track topped the US singles chart and reached No. 6 in the UK. An instrumental cover by Kenny Ball, which also made the UK top ten, can be strongly recommended. (US:14) "The song's earnestness and melodic beauty proved irresistible. Sound is very simple, uptempo and light. It is a lovely and catchy whistling song."

"Almost cried the first time I heard this song. Its so beautiful and transcends languages, there's something almost esoteric about it."

"The mood and the melody and the expressiveness of the singer say it all."

"Its such a sad and touching song. It really pulls at my heartstrings."
