Please Please Me was the seminal debut album from the world's foremost pop group, which also introduced popular music's most successful song-writing partnership. It combines energetic rockers like Twist & Shout and Boys with more reflective tunes such as PS I Love You and Do You Want To Know A Secret. Album comprises eight Lennon-McCartney compositions and six recent US covers. Includes the group's first two hit singles Love Me Do and the UK No. 2 title track. Please Please Me topped the UK album charts for over six months until displaced by The Beatles' second album release. (UK:1)

“Before this album there had been a standard that once you made it to the top of the charts you should quickly make an album that includes the hit and add some mediocre songs to make it an LP. However, The Beatles released a tight package of songs that everyone could enjoy. And they even wrote their own material. Here are eight Beatles originals and six cover R & B songs. For me, this album is a pure listening pleasure. Rockers, ballads and catchy pop songs. Everything you need.”

“This album was revelatory simply by virtue of it being conceived of as more than a showcase for a hit single, surrounded by whatever else could be thrown together to fill out an LP's thirty minute run time. The Beatles were brash enough to work to change the rules from the outset, and George Martin was smart enough to be open to their ideas. Decades later, the album is still something special.”

Please Please Me is fourteen strong tracks, combining all the styles of rock & roll and pop that were popular at the time, while displaying an unparalleled ability to write and select material.”

"Here were ordinary lads from Liverpool who could write their own stuff, not depend on professional songwriters to grind out hits for them."

"This established a yardstick for the quality of recording. Here are songs which have a beat, which are well sung, but they are also songs with passion and depth, songs which elevate your spirits, making you feel positive. I defy anyone not to love this album for the sheer verve, gusto and panache of the delivery, not to mention the fervent optimism and freshness of the sound and many of the lyrics." V
