The Broadway musical She Loves Me starred Barbara Cook, Daniel Massey, and Barbara Baxley. It opened in April 1963 at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre and ran for 302 performances. Based on a romantic plot involves two shop assistants who can't stand one another but who are at the same time anonymous pen pals. Music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. (US:15)
"Harnick and Bock have written a perfect little gem and this is the best recording. No other has Barbara Cook singing Ice Cream, one of Broadway's finest moments."
"The music is enchanting, the performances are dramatically and romantically brilliant, with special praise for Barbara Cook in her finest characterization."
"This is a brilliant show, beautifully and lovingly conceived, intimate and glowing with grace and beauty."
"She Loves Me is one of the most beautiful Broadway musicals ever to grace the stage. The gorgeous Sheldon Harnick-Jerry Bock score is filled with strong numbers, there's not a clunker in the bunch."
"The entire cast is strong and effective. I have said it many times; the Bock-Harnick score surpasses even their biggest hit, Fiddler On The Roof, and its such a crime that the musical isn't better known."
“Every song is delightful, and the cast couldn't be better."
"Hard to believe that this musical belongs to the same creators of Fiddler On The Roof. The singing is very good, but the songs are quite unappealing, and almost impossible to follow since melody is scarce and hard to catch."
