I Love You Because – AL MARTINO***

I Love You Because/Bouquet Of Roses/I Really Don’t Want To Know/Lonely Drifter/It’s A Sin/Losing You/Still/If I Never Get To Heaven/You Win Again/Merry-Go-Round/Just Call Me Lonesome/Take These Chains From My Heart

Romantic US vocalist Al Martino had to wait for well over a decade before cracking the US album charts. However, he did so convincingly with this collection of MOR standards. The title track was a No. 3 hit in the US. However, UK audiences will probably be more familiar with the Jim Reeves 1964 hit version. (US:7)

"There is no greater singer of love songs than Al Martino. These songs bring back some treasured memories."

"I Love You Because is an album of magnificent love songs all performed by the great Al Martino."

"Al's voice has true operatic qualities and he sings so well on this album."

"The song I Love You Because is very easy on the ear and the countrified arrangements work wonders for this ballad. Al never skips a beat and his excellent diction bolsters his performance even more."

“Al Martino, for several reasons beyond his control, will never be the giant as a Sinatra or a Bennett, but he's got a well deserved place in that hall of immortal Italian crooners.”

“Al goes country here, using many of the day's popular country and western songs and helping them crossover to a pop vein. I Love You Because was a hit for Al; the lyrics alone make it a classic, and Al's sensitive reading made lovebirds swoon from coast to coast. There is a heartfelt sound in Al's treatment of the classic Bouquet Of Roses that exceeds beautiful or melancholy; you just have to listen to believe it.”
