Make Way For – DIONNE WARWICK*****

A House Is Not A Home/People/Close To You/The Last One To Be Loved/Land Of Make Believe/Reach Out For Me/You’ll Never Get To Heaven/Walk On By/Wishin’ & Hopin’/I Smiled Yesterday/Get Rid Of Him/Make The Night A Little Longer

As was by now expected Dionne Warwick's third album is full of classic Bacharach and David tracks. It contains her best known song Walk On By, No. 6 in the States and No. 9 in the UK. Also included are the top twenty hits Reach Out For Me, and You'll Never Get To Heaven. Unfortunately, tracks have again been lifted from her debut album. (US:62)

"The classy production, by the song writing team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David, seems to epitomize the era of sophisticated American popular music that ended with the advent of the mid-'60s British beat boom and the rise of psychedelia."

"This album is a beautiful pop album, and is a great introduction for those that do not know Dionne Warwick well, or have never listened to her. Give it a listen."

"Musically, this is a great Dionne Warwick album. It has the hit Walk On By, as well as Reach Out For Me, plus the original version of Close To You (later made famous by The Carpenters). Wonderful album for the Dionne/Bacharach fan, or even the casual music listener."

"Dionne Warwick's voice is so right for the times of the 1960s. This is a great collection of tunes by Bacharach and David and the great voice of Dionne Warwick. I love it. I love all the songs."

"This album is a great example of how wonderful singing and intelligent songwriting came together to create an icon of the time period."

"Altogether, Bacharach/David put together a fistful of albums with Dionne as their preferred (definitive?) interpreter, but this comes as close as anything in the Bacharach oeuvre to the sublime transcendency for which he is so often celebrated."

"It features some of Hal and Burt's most sophisticated compositions, Slick '60s pop of the highest calibre, which will also more than please the intellect."
