Powerful singer P. J. Proby never achieved the success his vocal talents justified, particularly in his native USA. In Town reached No. 8 on the NME album chart and includes many standards given the inimitable Proby treatment. His interpretation of Maria was a UK No. 8 hit single.

"Easily the best crooner LP of all time and probably one of the best albums ever in any category. What more can I say? This is just so incredibly good music that words just can`t describe it. I know one thing; many people have become lifetime Proby fans after hearing side one of this record once. It is that good. Simply the best."

"P.J. Proby at his slickest and best. Who can ever grow tired of that velvet smooth voice, and what a great album cover. P.J. Proby cool, refined, suave and sophisticated. I was instantly overwhelmed by the monumental talent of the artist."

"Say what you like about the man and his career, but you cannot ignore the enormous talent of this gifted vocal chameleon. Outstanding track on this album: To Make A Big Man Cry. Like all Proby discs, if you haven't heard it - beg, borrow or steal it."

"He was beginning to move toward a more middle-of-the-road sound, similar to Tom Jones. Though the album is well-produced and well-crafted - the sound slick, stylish and professional - it lacks the spark of his first two records, even if the number of first rate songs hasn't decreased."

"P.J. Proby is to my mind one of the most versatile, stylish, charismatic and talented singers ever. His vocal range is second to none."

"What a truly varied and magnificent voice PJ has, as we listen to rock, ballads, blues and country."

"You put on a PJ record and you smile at his elastic vocal interpretations. A truly great singer and outstanding entertainer who never got the recognition he deserved."
