French orchestra leader Paul Mauriat enjoyed a huge international hit with Love Is Blue, a US No. 1 and UK No. 12 hit single. The accompanying album Blooming Hits also hit the top spot in the States, but his future releases would be far less successful. (US:1)
"Blooming Hits was first released around the time of Paul Mauriat's most famous hit, Love Is Blue. If you are after a compilation of Mauriat's work this is probably the best one you will find. Overall, Blooming Hits is a well balanced representation of Mauriat's arrangement of popular music from the 1960s. Sit back and enjoy that wonderfully symphonic 'Mauriat sound'."
"Love Is Blue became an international hit and it really reflects a time when everything was more romantic, the good times of early adolescence and discovery. Every song on this record has a meaning. And wow, what an orchestra, the arrangements, the sound, the harpsichord sound."
"Beautiful music, reminds me of times past. Too bad they don't produce music like this any more."
"Quite simply, this album is the exemplar of orchestral 60s pop. So subtle, yet intricate and complex, it continues to amaze me after listening to the album for more than twenty years. For the neo-lounge martini fans, this album is a must have."
"This is it - the album with the original Love Is Blue, which captivated my ears. A perfect slice of pop and orchestra - the rhythm section just swings on this, instantly giving it a cool groove and a sound like nothing else."
"This is a superb album with brilliantly orchestrated songs. If you are into quality instrumental music, then this is a good album for you. It includes the hit single Love Is Blue which held the record at that time for the most consecutive weeks at number one on the radio charts. If you like instrumental music untainted by synthesizers or other electronic processing, you're going to love this one."
