Chad & Jeremy were a British pop duo with a musical style similar to Peter & Gordon, but a little more folky. They were hardly known in their native land but had some success in the States during the mid sixties. More comprehensive CDs of their work from this period are well worth the purchase. (US:49)
"In their homeland, the British pop duo of Chad and Jeremy are virtually unknown. It seems that they quickly realized that their style of pop music (easy listening ballads) would be unlikely to succeed in sixties Britain and so they aimed at the American market instead. In this, they were successful, having five top thirty hits, the best known being the gentle A Summer Song and Willow Weep For Me. I'm one Brit who is pleased to have discovered their music."
"Alone among their British Invasion cohorts, Chad and Jeremy came directly out of the folk clubs of London. The duo specialized in folk-tinged acoustic guitar-based soft pop, like Simon and Garfunkel."
"Like Peter and Gordon, their material featured Everly Brothers style harmonies, lush orchestration and folky guitars. Hits like Yesterday's Gone are charming artefacts of the mid-sixties."
"What set Chad and Jeremy apart, and made them special, was their perfect blend of voices that created such beautiful harmony."
"In contrast to Peter and Gordon, Chad & Jeremy at times had a bit of a folkie edge to their sound. Their neo-folk/pop tunes such as Yesterday's Gone and What Do You Want With Me are marvellous, bouncy little genre pieces."
"This pair's music came across the pond with the British invasion in the mid-60s but had a distinctively softer sound than that of most of their peers. Their signature track, A Summer Song can bring a twinge to the heart better than just about any other lost summer romance song. These guys were also competent doing standards such as If I Loved You."
