Now That Everything's Been Said - THE CITY****

Snow Queen/Wasn't Born To Follow/Now That Everything's Been Said/Paradise Alley/Man Without A Dream/ Victim Of Circumstance/Why Are You Leaving/Lady/My Sweet Home/I Don't Believe It/Hi Di Ho/All My Time

Sole album release from The City featuring notable future singer-songwriter Carole King. This almost forgotten release includes the original versions of Wasn't Born To Follow and Hi Di Ho, successfully covered by The Byrds and Blood Sweat & Tears respectively.

"Sometimes I'll run across an album that sounds interesting on paper, but just doesn't deliver on its potential. Now That Everything's Been Said isn't one of those albums at all. This not only sounds fascinating on paper but also packs in everything I could ask for in an album. In fact, it's one of the best 60s records I've ever heard, and that it's the work of one of the most successful songwriters of all time makes its obscurity rather baffling."

"Adler's arrangements on this album are fantastic - I would go so far as to call it one of the most sophisticated pop albums ever released. The ensemble playing is also exceptionally tight and highlighted by Kortchmar's guitar fills, Gordon's inventive drumming and King's own piano melodies. Carole's voice has already developed the innate soulfulness that she would demonstrate on later albums such as Tapestry."

"Overall this album is a soft rock masterpiece, one of the high watermarks of the early singer-songwriter movement. The record contains a brilliant mix of torch songs, up-tempo soulful stuff, shades of country, jazz and R & B."

"The total gem from this album is Snow Queen, a somewhat jazzy, gloriously melodic, lush pop-rock tune with a fantastic lead vocal from Carole as well as great harmonies. It's one of the very best songs of her entire career."

"This is beautiful, near-perfect record. It should have been a huge hit. All the ingredients which made Tapestry so popular a few years later are here: catchy songs driven by Carole King's piano riffs, great harmonies, and a brilliant backing band. The album has a relaxed, fun, pop-ish feeling, like a folksy Pet Sounds, and the arrangements are a lot more punchy"
