Your Good Girl’s Gonna Go Bad was the debut album from country star Tammy Wynette. She would become the premier female country vocalist during the early 1970s.
"Good Girl is an absolutely risk free purchase for anyone even remotely familiar with her immense talents and a solid showcase of early Tammy.”
“This was the album that introduced Tammy Wynette to the music world. It was a musical form of experimentation for both her and her producer, Billy Sherrill, trying to find the right songs for her voice 'with the teardrop within'."
“This, Tammy's debut album, includes her first country hit, Apartment No. 9. It was only a minor success but it was followed by Your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad, which was a major country hit. The album contains many covers of contemporary country songs, most of which are well known and brilliantly performed.”
“What else do you need to know, it is Tammy Wynette. There is a new 'Queen of Country Music' every few years but she was absolutely one of the tops. It is our blessing that her music will live on.”
“Before her major hits Tammy Wynette teamed up with Billy Sherrill with this illustrious endeavour that resulted in Tammy's auspicious recording debut. This is a first class country music album. It was obvious from the start that Tammy Wynette was destined to become a country music superstar.”
“This album, her debut, is about as country as it gets. A real classic. Apartment # 9 and the title cut are well known by fans. But the real keeper here is Don't Touch Me, an incredible ballad that is still one of my all-time favourite performances of any singer of any genre. Little wonder they call Tammy Wynette the Queen of Country Music. This is where it all began.”
“Her debut album is still one of her best. Although some of the material doesn't quite match the quality of the hits, it still contains enough solid tracks to ensure its status.”
I would say it's the best debut album for any country singer ever. Tammy's version of "Almost Persuaded" is I think better than David Houston's. His version spent 9 weeks at #1 on the country charts (a record that held for 46 years). Tammy's version was not released as a single. I agree that "Don't Touch Me" is an incredible performance, too.
