Share The Land - GUESS WHO***

Bus Rider/Do You Miss Me Darlin'/Hand Me Down World/Mona For You Joe/Share The Land/Hang On To Your Life/Coming Down Of The Money Bag-Song Of The Dog/Three More Days

The environmentally concerned Share The Land was the last high charting album from the Canadian soft rock band The Guess Who. They would struggle along for the next few years with diminishing popularity and several personnel changes. Features the US No. 10 title track and No. 17 Hand Me Down World. (US:14)

"The one album in their catalogue that spawned the most hits, this was also the first without Bachman. Though this one is still among their best, there can be no doubt it was the beginning of a long, slow decline into oblivion."

"On the heels of their number one hit and breakout, American Woman, founding member and songwriter, Randy Bachman left the band to form Bachman-Turner Overdrive. He was replaced by Kurt Winter and together with lead singer Burton Cummings, they fashioned the most socially conscious album of the band's career."

"The Guess Who present an album featuring hits on vaguely fleshed out environmentalist and humanitarian concerns via some pretty shabby poetic clichés that could only have seen light in a year like 1970. The guys share songwriting credits and explore a variety of styles ranging from bluegrass to jazz to prog rock, and all of these stylings unquestionably fail. Maybe they were having too much fun with this one. The singles save it somewhat, but neither of the two hits are among the band’s best. Pretty poor album overall, I'm sorry to say."

"After their leader deserted them, The Guess Who weren't too sure of what to do, and this is what they created. A step above their first two attempts but a nod lower then the stomp and romp classic American Woman. Overall this is an impressive album. Share The Land is a great free-spirited hippie anthem that rivals other to be the best song in The Guess Who's catalogue."

"Even though Randy Bachman had left the band, Share The Land is perhaps The Guess Who's best work. It starts off with a keyboard rocker, Bus Rider and does not let up. Hang On To Your Life is a classic and runs smack dab into bluegrass blues rocker Coming Down Off The Money Bag. There are no weak songs on the album."

"Looking at the songs on Share The Land, it's no wonder that five of the album's eight original tracks made it to the band's greatest hits collection."
