Tradition/Matchmaker Matchmaker/If I Were A Rich Man/Sabbath Prayer/To Life/Miracle Of Miracles/Tevye’s Dream/Sunrise Sunset/Bottle Dance/Now I Have Everything/Do You Love Me/Far From The Home I Love/Anatevka

The London cast version of Fiddler On The Roof starred Topol whom many consider most perfectly embodied the lead role. The musical opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre in February 1967 and ran for 2,030 performances. The LP includes the UK No. 9 hit single If I Were A Rich Man. Music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Hamick. (UK:4)

"Probably one of the most dynamic musicals ever created. Topol's performance makes this version quite unforgettable - but the whole ensemble is just dynamite. Stirring and moving, I'll especially point to the opening number, Tradition, as a true tour de force for Topol, though most people will remember his excellent reading of If I Were A Rich Man, which is great as well."

"You definitely won't regret getting this version of Fiddler On The Roof. I saw Topol live and he was amazing in the lead role - the animation and emotion in his voice makes him one of the best stage singers ever. The rest of the cast is equally as animated and talented - they make you feel as if you're sitting right there in the front row. One of the best LPs I've ever bought."

"This musical is loved by many people, old and young, and the reason for this is because although the story is so specific, of a Jewish man and his wife and children and his struggle to do the right thing traditionally, it can be understood by all. This is helped by the music which adds to the sense of Judaism and brings you into the story. Such beautiful music, my favourites being the Sabbath Prayer and Sunrise Sunset which appeal to all. This is an LP that should not be missed."

"What is it about Fiddler On The Roof that makes it such an enduring and breathtaking masterpiece? Is it the charming and very unusual plot line coupled with the delightful music and the moving lyrics, or is it something more? What it is really about is a character musical; every archetypical Jewish and Russian figure is embodied in this piece. It is impossible not to love and laugh over delightful figures like Tevye, Golde, Yente, Motel, I could go on and on. It is this endearing quality that has made Fiddler the timeless classic that it is. Other musicals are breathtaking or touching or hilarious, this musical is all of those things and much more."
