May Blitz - MAY BLITZ***

Smoking The Day Away/I Don't Know/Dreaming/Squeet/Tomorrow May Come/Fire Queen/Virgin Waters

Self titled debut from the British based hard rock trio May Blitz, which after personnel changes, included two Canadians. Although critically well received it was commercially unsuccessful.

“A convincing record of seventies blues/psych that is very easy on the ears. Everything sounds gorgeous, the drums and guitar particularly are almost edible.”

“May Blitz's debut album is a really good mix of heavy psych and blues rock. There are some clear progressive elements too on some of these songs. I could choose any of these songs as a highlight.”

“Every track on here is every bit as good as the best hard rock you can think of, with progressively complex yet catchy grooving melodic riffs and drum rolls with a beefy bass to boot. Everything comes together perfectly from the very first track. You can count on some high energy hard rock that perfectly balances the formula of heavy prog, bluesy psych with a groovy and even slightly funky edge.”

“May Blitz's first album is a fantastic proggy psych rock affair that sounds better every time I go back and listen to it. Smoking The Day Away is a classic, possessing sinister riffing and a great foggy atmosphere. The guitar playing is amazing and so is the hard rhythm section. One of the best British albums of it's time and style.” “Heavy progressive style hard rock, with good period flavour and a big gloom and doom atmosphere. Among the better releases in its genre.”

“This is what I call a power trio, sticking to bluesy hard rock, with some psych and prog rock thrown in, although the lyrics often tend to be hippie oriented.” “Long tracks, based in the blues, but with plenty of room given for psychedelic soloing is the order of the day. Their debut is considered one of the greats of the early 1970s UK hard rock era.”
