Easy Action was the follow up album from the hard rock group Alice Cooper. Released before they found international fame, the group were still at the experimental stage before finding their true style and sound.
“At this point Alice Cooper were developing the style that would catapult the band to international superstardom, yet they were still working with the avant-garde ideas that initially propelled their vision. The result is often static and dull, sometimes loose and exciting, but always interesting.”
“The follow-up to Pretties For You was a rather rushed affair as the band were constantly touring. Add that to an unsympathetic producer and you find an album that's out of the same mould but more focused, less tinny and more professional, only not quite as thrilling.”
“The first crudely recognizable characteristics of the sound they would use throughout the remainder of their early 70s career are just beginning to sprout. Not to say there isn't still some of the more non-commercial hard rock sounds that got them this far, they're just not as developed. The album is a diverse mix of light pop, punk, and Beefheart influenced non-commercial rock with a heavy sound. Minor psych influences circulate throughout.”
“Less weird than Pretties For You, Easy Action starts to hint at the garage band sound that Alice Cooper would become famous for in the early 1970s. While there is some good material here, it is by no means a classic.”
“This is the second Alice Cooper album and it certainly shows signs of where the band were eventually heading. Producer David Briggs does a fine job helping the band develop their sound. The album is diverse with psychedelic rockers, to Beatlesesque tracks mixed with more conventional 70s rock. This one is often overlooked, even by some fans, but is definitely worth picking up.”
“This is great psychedelic garage rock recording, which has many interesting pieces. After this album they left psychedelia almost totally.”
“Easy Action occurs a year or so before Alice became a huge star and is more of an acid rock/psychedelic release. However, you can hear the band finding its sound.”
