Compilation album from the well known American country star Merle Haggard whose popularity grew during the late 1960s. His songs cover issues such as crime and poverty.

“Merle Haggard is a legend in my books, his music and words to his songs are deep and real. This is good but it doesn’t do this legend justice; you have to buy his individual albums to really get into Haggard.”

“Merle Haggard is a legend both for his guitar playing talent and his songwriting for the common man.”

“What can anyone say about Merle Haggard that has not already been said? He has an awesome voice that he brings to delightful country songs almost effortlessly. Quality songs and songwriting that cannot be beat.”

“I really like old country music. It's much more sincere and real that the current garbage permeating the airwaves. Merle Haggard is a prime example of that old country music. He's one of the greatest songwriters to emerge from country music, and his songs are still valid today.”

“His distinctive voice adds a melancholy feel to the songs he sings that cause them to stay in your head.”

“Merle has that wonderful early country music warmth when he sings. It is all about his experiences and his feelings. He doesn't rely on all the electronic back ups to highlight his voice, it is just him.”

“The collection includes singles that are among Haggard's best and most loved recordings, commencing with Swinging Doors."

“You can't go wrong here – these songs from the sixties are his best. This is a killer introduction to his early work, with a slightly more rootsy feel than his '70s stuff.”
