A New Time A New Day – THE CHAMBERS BROTHERS***

I Can’t Turn You Loose/Guess Who/Do Your Thing/Where Have All The Flowers Gone/Love Is All I Have/You Got The Power To Turn Me On/I Wish It Would Rain/Rock Me Mama/No No No Don’t Say Goodbye/Satisfy You/A New Time A New Day

A New Time A New Day was the second and final hit album from now largely overlooked progressive soul group The Chambers Brothers. Subsequent releases would chart very much lower. (US:16)

"By the time of this release, they had settled into a formula of including one heavy psych freak out track, along with their typical conventional pop/soul material, featuring nice vocal harmony."

"If nothing else The Chambers Brothers were certainly as good as anyone when it came to vocal harmonies. On this album they play some Motown, blues and psychedelic rock with mixed results. The most engaging moment may be their interpretation of Rock Me Mama. If you liked Time Has Come Today this is only a slight drop off. A respectable but not groundbreaking effort that is worth a listen if you like this band."

"The Chambers Brothers were one of the first integrated rock groups and their music was a great combination of psychedelic rock, gospel, soul and funk. Cuts like A New Time A New Day emphasize the more psychedelic aspects of the band and contain some nasty distorted guitar work. Tracks like I Can't Turn You Loose are more soulful. This is a fine representation of how the musicians and bands of the sixties incorporated the influences of other genres of music into their own sound."

"Like a lot of albums released in the wake a major commercial breakthrough, it's not quite the artistic equal of its predecessor, but the record still contains many fine moments and further reinforces the group's position as one of America's best black rock bands of the late 1960s. Not that there were a lot of African American musicians still playing that kind of music at the time anyway."

"There is no shortage of exquisite harmony vocals, one of The Chambers' trademarks. Even non-original material that has been covered ad nauseum by other musicians still sounds fresh when these guys perform it because of their immense singing talent."
