Begin – THE MILLENNIUM***

Prelude/To Claudia On Thursday/I Just Want To Be Your Friend/5 Am/I’m With You/The Island/Sing To Me/Its You/Some Sunny Day/It Won’t Always Be The Same/The Know It All/Karmic Dream Sequence/There Is Nothing More To Say/Anthem (Begin)

Begin was the sole album by the studio group The Millennium created by Curt Boettcher who worked with The Association. Despite good reviews this venture conspicuously failed to match the commercial appeal of the more famous group.

“The Millennium was a studio project of producer Curt Boettcher, who is perhaps best known for his work with the 60s group The Association. They fall on the lighter side of 60s psychedelia, and might be considered to be slightly bubblegum, though this music has much more of a lush, sophisticated sound. Some of the melodies and vocal harmonies on here are also really good.”

“The songs are catchy and production is smooth. The leader of the band was a one time player in the more popular band, The Association. The songs are tightly knit, three minute at most, burst of thought out fun and endearing thoughts. They add a touch of exotica/bossa nova percussion to songs such as 5 Am. For any fan of good guitar based, smooth pop music or any 60s music, this will be a great addition to your musical world.”

“Rich songwriting and arrangement here for sure, with various strange sound effects not being at all unwelcome, but it’s a very light pop sound, thanks mainly to the exceedingly soft, gentle vocals. It took me a little while to acclimatise to it. These guys sound like California beach hippies, the album is one long good vibe of peace and love with hints of Eastern mysticism.”

“This album is simply a must-have, a fantastically produced psychedelic artefact that never falls into that slushy kind of kitsch bandwagon-psych which filled the airwaves. Psych fans can rest assured that this is an album without embarrassing moments, maybe with some rather extravagant overdubs, but these are all both creatively and tastefully used.”

“This album is full of lush melodies that you would expect from Curt. It also includes the over the top production you would also expect. But it takes everything he did a step further and is a true masterpiece of the late 1960s. This album is a must for anyone who is fan of psychedelic pop music. This is sunshine pop music at its best.”
