The Beatles debut US album on Capitol topped the US album chart for eleven weeks. The US LP releases are an anathema to many British fans, but they are how the Americans of the time remember the group's earlier music. Capitol used a fake stereo which gave a different sound to the UK mono version. (US:1)

"The songs I Want To Hold Your Hand and This Boy are also in duophonic (fake) stereo, due to the lack of a proper stereo mix that was supposed to be given to Capitol."

"The music matters first here with its inventive chord changes, switching from major to minor and back again. But close behind, this record allows the listener to glimpse into the personalities of each band member."

"This is the fresh sound of the four as they came on the American scene. Lots of life and enthusiasm. Nothing quite like it. A great set of songs, with rockers and ballads, something of a preview of what was to come from this band."

"For good or bad, this is what most of us remember. They're not Beatles' albums as The Beatles envisioned them, but so what? They are a lot of fun to listen to."

"I actually like the fake stereo and reverb from these US albums - it was a product of the times and of the era."

"I think the main attraction of this set is really for the American listener who wants to recreate the sound and song-order of The Beatles' vinyl albums. You will not be disappointed. The purists will tell you that Capitol monkeyed with the sound, but that is not the point: you get a different kind of purity with these sets - the purity of hearing it just like you heard it the first time around."

"I was firstly stunned as to how different they are from the UK versions - almost unrecognisable. Secondly, I was stunned at how good they sound."
