A double LP of Glenn Miller era big band tunes recorded by the Syd Lawrence Orchestra. It is not obvious why anyone would want to buy re-recordings of these tunes when the originals are readily available. (UK:14)
"Led by trumpeter Syd Lawrence, his orchestra enjoyed huge commercial success in the late 1960s and throughout the '70s, and, next to the Ted Heath Orchestra, was one of the greatest big bands ever to have come from Britain. Listening to this superb album will qualify that point. Syd and his men, aided and abetted on a few numbers by vocalists Kevin Kent and the Skylarks, swing their way through a selection of legendary bandleader Glenn Miller's greatest hits."
"This LP has it all - super sounds and immaculate playing by Syd and his orchestra, which at the time had a band line up containing many of the famous Northern Dance Orchestra. Musicianship doesn't get much better than this - a disk to be enjoyed on all levels. Brilliant."
"A brilliant recording, it's superb. It takes me back to my dancing days at the Tower Ballroom, Blackpool."
"How can you improve on the Glenn Miller classics? Impossible? Take a listen to Syd Lawrence and you might decide the impossible has happened. First class sound, impossible to keep still. Lively, bang up-to-date performances of all the old favourites. Highly recommended."
"This is a more modern recording than the old original Glenn Miller Band. The Syd Lawrence orchestra is exceptionally good."
