Barbed Wire Sandwich - BLACK CAT BONES***

Chauffer/Death Valley Blues/Feelin' Good/Please Tell Me Baby/Coming Back/Save My Love/Four Women/ Sylvester's Blues/Good Lookin' Woman

Black Cat Bones were a British blues rock group best remembered for once including Paul Kossoff and Simon Kirke. However, by the time of the sole album release Barbed Wire Sandwich both had left to join Free.

“The material is highly guitar driven blues-rock with some psychedelic elements in some of the songs. The whole album is actually really solid and awesome.”

“Really good late 60s heavy blues-rock that would appeal to fans of British bands like Savoy Brown and Fleetwood Mac. This has some occasional boogie as well as some slightly progressive elements. Rod Price really tears it up on some of the songs, reminding us of what an underrated guitar player he was.”

“The album featured a mixture of traditional blues numbers and new studio material largely penned by Price. The predominant sound was straight ahead English bluesrock, and it's actually one of the better releases in the genre.”

“This isn't a great disc; for the most part it is fairly run of the mill late 60s British blues, with largely covers. However, the singer has a pretty good voice, and Rod Price's guitar is excellent in places. Feelin' Good is probably the highlight of this recording, its a slow bluesy cut with hippie lyrics.”

“The theme throughout is the blues pure and simple. There aren't any throwaway tunes but also nothing that distinguishes itself from the myriad of similar releases.”

“Songs like Death Valley Blues are pretty much straight blues numbers, but the band is certainly good enough to hold your interest if you're into this style. Feelin' Good is where they really caught my attention, though.”
